Frequently Asked Questions about the TurningArt Artist Dashboard

Why do I need this?

We want to be sure that artists know how their work is doing. This feature allows you to see how many searches your work shows up in, how many times your work has been looked at on it's own, how many people have added your work to their "Collection", how many pieces are currently out in a customers home, as well as statistics about how much money you've earned through the TurningArt / Artist revenue share program, as well as how many prints and original pieces you're sold.

Why does "Search Pageview" mean?

When our customers look through the artwork on TurningArt they conduct searches by Medium, Region, Category, and keyword. When your work turns up in one of these searches it's counted as a "Search Pageview". This is important because this helps you determine the "searchability" of your work. When we publish your artwork we include "tags" used by our search engine to find applicable results, but it also looks through the piece description you include with your work, so the more information you include in that field, the more times people are going to find your work when they conduct searches using keywords.

What does "Piece Pageview" mean?

A Piece Pageview is when somebody clicks on one of your pieces after it has shown up on a search. These are "unique" pageviews, which means that if the same person clicks on your piece multiple times it only counts as 1 pageview.

Under "Your Pieces", why is there a discrepancy between "Viewed" and "Added." Doesn't somebody have to view the piece in order to add it?

The Viewed number only tracks the number of times your work has been viewed since your Dashboard was first launched, while the Added number is for All Time. See statistics for All Time, Past 6 Months, and Past 30 Days by clicking the text links in the top right.

What is the map showing me?

The map shows you the locations of your prints. Dropped pins indicate the zipcode where your piece is currently hanging. Exact locations aren’t shown to respect the privacy of our customers.

What does the "Pieces Added" number mean?

TurningArt customers create "Collections", which is basically a group of artwork they eventually want to try out in their home or office. The Piece Added number is the number of pieces that customers have added to their collections, which means they will eventually be rented.

How does TurningArt calculate Artist royalties?

We use the term "Royalties" to simplify things, however the money artists make when their prints are rented is actually a share of TurningArt's revenue. This amount is calculated by looking at the amount of money TurningArt took in from print rentals in a given month, and then dividing that amount by the number of prints that were out in customers’ homes. We then distribute 10% of the rental revenue to artists according to how many of their prints were out in a given month.

Why do I sometimes make 40% from the sale of one of my prints, and sometimes less?

TurningArt customers earn one dollar in ArtCredits™ for every dollar they spend on their subscription. These credits can be used towards 100% of the purchase price of prints. Potentially, a customer who has earned enough ArtCredits to buy a print will have rotated the work of several different artists before cashing in all of their ArtCredits™, which means that 10% of that sale was already set aside and distributed to another artist in rental royalties (or revenue shares). In the case that a customer uses 100% ArtCredits™ to purchase your print, you’ll receive 30% and the other 10% will be distributed to the artists whose work was being rotated prior to the purchase of your print. If a customer uses partial ArtCredits™ to purchase your print, 40% of the money they spent to make up the difference will go to you, while 10% of the earned ArtCredits™ will go to the artist whose prints were rented during the rotation service.

How can I bolster my Dashboard numbers and earn more money through TurningArt?

Artists benefit most with time and many pieces (there is no limit). Never hesitate to upload if you have high res print ready images. With a growing customer base not everyone will like it but someone will, so submitting new work is the best way to take advantage of TurningArt. To keep the view fresh, the homepage browse defaults to portfolios with recently published pieces - submitting new work makes you very easy to find. Know that we will process/publish print-ready high-images as soon as possible (usually within a week) depending on when your last piece was published. Stay engaged, ask questions, and tell your friends. We're all in this together!
