About the Artist

Born in 1974 and originally from Amesbury, Massachusetts, Scott Chasse set up shop at The Distillery artist’s building in South Boston in 2001. After a 10-year residency at this long standing arts hub of Boston, he now lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.

Scott has always been drawn to black & white "Xeroxed" images and single-color screen prints, much like the flyers that were tacked to cork boards in record shops back before Facebook Event Pages and reblogging digital posters became the norm. His painting process is a combination of digital rendering and traditional painting and mimics that vintage Xerox aesthetic. The grainy, high contrast two-tone imagery he creates stems from the days of manual "cut & paste" while employing today’s technology. Scott’s paintings are both nostalgic and modern – a merger of old and new.

His artistic roots are based in skateboarding, underground music, and pre-90’s subculture. With no formal art school training (he attended NEIA for Audio Production), he always considered himself to be an "outsider" artist. Until his stay at The Distillery, he hadn’t realized how well his artwork could be received by others. He now exhibits regularly in Boston, New York, and Philadelphia.
