About the Artist

Rachel Rickert's paintings capture an evidence of her presence and traces of humanity in her spaces. In New York we talk about, seek out, and celebrate space in an obsessive and desperate way. She explores the intimate trails we carve through our domestic worlds and the often fickle notion of what home is. About the Artist

Rachel Rickert’s paintings capture an evidence of her presence and traces of humanity in her spaces. In New York we talk about, seek out, and celebrate space in an obsessive and desperate way. She explores the intimate trails we carve through our domestic worlds and the often fickle notion of what home is. Rickert wants the disjointed nature of the spaces, whether within one canvas or across two, to emphasize that despite the celebration of the sacred rooms, whether home or studio, apprehension lurks in anticipation of the chaos of the exterior world. Life can be traced and her story told through the portraits of her spaces as she captures the way things are left, and the way we let things fall apart.

Rachel Rickert was born in Bethesda, Maryland, and now lives and works in New York. She is approaching her second solo show at E.Tay Gallery in NYC this September. Rickert received her MFA from the New York Studio School with the Mac Connor Scholarship Award, and her BFA from Washington University in St. Louis, Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts. In 2012- 13 Rickert participated in the Brooklyn Art Space Recent Graduate Residency, and in 2015 the Chautauqua School of Art Residency. She recently was awarded the James O’Brian Award, for her piece "Evening Abandon" in the 60th Chautauqua Annual Exhibition of Contemporary Art: 60 Works Celebrating 60 Years, at the Fowler-Kellogg Art Center, Chautauqua, NY.
