Tapestry 2 blues birds

Tapestry 2 - Blues, Birds

Piece description from the artist

This image, and the series of which it is a part, was inspired by a call for public art I responded to in 2021. I used this digital work as a jumping-off point for a public art group installation in Newton, MA. Something I return to in my illustration and painting work is the idea of textiles, fabrics, and the motif of a "welcome blanket." This illustration attempts to convey the idea of a sheltering, comforting, encompassing blanket through cascading folds and deep color. The patterns and motifs represented on the blanket depict stars/constellations, fauna, and abstract repeating designs; several bird silhouettes are also subtly woven into each design of this series as well.

About Kit Collins

Medford, MA

Kit Collins is an illustrator and muralist based in Medford, MA. She has created murals for public art commissions and private clients throughout the greater Northeast, including the cities of Pawtucket, RI; Lowell, MA; and the Lane Memorial Library in Hampton, NH. A seasoned collaborator with brands, campaigns and publications, Collins' illustration clients include the Charles River Regional Chamber, Amazon Web Services, Conservation Law Foundation, and Arnold Worldwide.

Collins specializes in creating detailed, warm, whimsical illustrations and maps, as well as site-specific murals. While digital illustration and painting make up the bulk of her artistic practice, Kit's work is influenced by a variety of craft techniques, such as printmaking and embroidery, and a cartoony sense of humor often shows up in her work. Whether every new illustration or blank wall, Kit seeks to create opportunities for viewers to experience levity, humor, celebration, and connection.
