Sandlines 2013-04

Piece description from the artist

The images in my "Sandlines" project show the shapes, textures, hues and juxtapositions of sand, brown seaweed and small pebbles on a windy Maine beach at ebb tide. Some of them resemble Chinese characters, some creatures, some landscapes and others fossils. The dry, windblown, luminous sand accumulates behind the seaweed – shadowing its contours and contrasting with the wet, dark sand. The pebbles sometimes seem to be drawn to or thrown from the seaweed characters. This is one of my favorites because it looks like a Leonardo da Vinci designed machine to protect cities under siege from catapult-thrown projectiles (like a 16th century Patriot missile battery).
