Celebratory Culture

Piece description from the artist

This piece is part of a series I've been working on about my recent trip visiting family in the Philippines. The paintings all contain layered elements of plants, people, and objects. Visiting unfamiliar places can bring a refreshed perspective, and that definitely applies here. I kept noticing all the large and bright tropical plants popping up between the densely packed homes in the busy city, people walking by with bags of food or selling roasted chicken by the roadside.
