Buckle Orchard

Buckle Orchard

Piece description from the artist

This painting was included in a project called 'Paint the Farm' sponsored by the Maine Farmland Trust Gallery, where artists visited farms across the state to capture a moment in time. This landscape was of a 200 year old pear orchard that had been abandon and threatened with bulldozing, when the Maine Farmland Trust intervened. The land eventually saved and turned back into a producing orchard under Jim Buckle of Buckle Farm. This painting was created in the first year of new ownership before the trees were pruned. Being in the pear orchard in late fall, at dusk with the sweet smell of ripe pears and fallen leaves was an amazing experience—you could hear the trees talk.
