Piece description from the artist
“Basquiat Lightweight” is one of my latest works, and in the first series painted in 2019. Referencing the iconic picture of Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat in Everlast boxing gloves, the series celebrates two of my biggest artistic inspirations.
After I cut the stencil of Jean-Michel Basquiat, which is 24×48, I decided to make a series where each Basquiat portrait would be a different color scheme and different size. Alongside each, I created a complimentary portrait of Andy Warhol. The paintings can be purchased individually or displayed as a set.
The name “Lightweight” was decided because this is the smallest set of paintings in the series. The other sets, titles “Andy/Basquiat Middleweight” and “Andy/Basquiat Heavyweight” are 24”x36” and 24”x48” respectively.
