Alex Vera paints pop art with meanings and messages that are universal. Inspired by the tropics of Florida and the street culture of New York, he works mostly in acrylics, oils, mixed media, and oil pastels to create art that’s composed of bright, vivid colors and interesting subject matter.

Alex uses semiotics in much of his work because he feels that substituting symbols for words is one way to ensure that art is universally understood.

Keith Haring and Pablo Picasso are the artists who have most influenced Alex’s own art, mainly because of their use of color and imagery, but also because their work includes messages of social activism and energy. He hopes his art can one day cross the boundary between popular culture and museums.
