Sunset 3

I painted this while I was on residency in Costa Rica in 2009. This painting continues my exploration of sunsets and silhouettes. The light is beautiful in Costa Rica, and as the sun sets, the rainforest turns into silhouettes. This turned out to be one of my favorite pieces I made during the month I was in Costa Rica, and combines imagery from two different sources. While most of my paintings are from direct observation, either painted from life or from photographs I have taken, the background for this painting and the plant silhouettes were from two slightly different views, combined into one painting.
