Large Island Field
The development of any particular space in a painting sets up distances: between the viewer and subject as well as between formal elements and information points within the subject. I’m interested in exploring this type of depth, not as an exercise in identifying specific places, but instead as a way to create environments that move deeply back and forth. As art is about relationships, edges play a critical role in the art object.
Large island field is from a series of small works inspired by areas on the island of Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts.
